Composed by Robin Lang, Written by Lester Hein

Bright lights and promises,
And things that made us smile
We took a chance and harnessed it
We were happy for a while.
But long nights and arguments
Took the pen in different ways
And I felt like part of me
Wasn’t meant to be in this play

And it’s sad but I know how the story goes
And I’ve read what the characters say
All the parts that they play when the lines slow
To a pause
And the curtains come rushing down
I’m drowned in regret and I can’t forget
These dusty window panes
Memories washed away

I swear I’ll learn some day

Cos I know how the story goes
Yes I know how it all unfolds
Said I know how the story goes

Cos I’ve been here before

Looking back through all of this,
I’m amazed at what I see.
Cos i fell too hard and she
Needed more than only me
But my sight’s moved on
I guess it was much too much, too fast
I tried, Lord I did
Now I leave the past in the past

And it’s sad but I know how the story goes
And I’ve read what the characters say
All the parts that they play when the lines slow
To a pause
And the curtains come rushing down
I’m drowned in regret and I can’t forget
These dusty window panes
Memories washed away

I swear I’ll learn some day

And it’s sad but I know how the story goes
And I’ve read what the characters say
All the parts that they play when the lines slow
To a pause
And the curtains come rushing down
And I’m drowned in regret and I can’t forget
Those dusty window panes
Memories washed away.

I swear I’ll learn some day

Cos I know how the story goes
Yes I know how it all unfolds
Said I know how the story goes
